Q. Why use Faux Finish and not wall papers?
A. Unlike wallpaper, Faux Finish is permanent and personalized.
Its elegant, customized finish presents no distracting seams,
and will not peel off because of environmental changes.
Q. Is Faux Finish washable?
A. Yes. After the Faux finish is completed, a clear sealer coat
can be applied in a choice of either flat, satin, or semi-gloss
finish to make the surface more durable and washable.
Q. Can Faux Finish be touched up?
A. Yes. Faux Finish touch up kits are available upon request with
step by step instructions about the technique that has been used.
Q. I'm renting, but I would like to have
my walls Faux Finished. Can Faux Finish be removed easily?
A. Yes. A coat of high hide primer should be applied on the surface
then painted over to cover-up the Faux Finish.
Q. Does Faux Finish leave an odor?
A. No. Faux Finish is applied with environmental-friendly paints
that have no toxic odor.
Q. Is Faux Finish more expensive than wallpaper?
A. Faux Finish generally costs the same or less than the average
wallpaper. Keep in mind that you are receiving a personalized finish
without wallpaper's disadvantages of seams, peeling off, etc.
Q. My walls are not in good condition. Is
there any special Faux Finish technique I can use to hide the imperfections?
A. Yes. The Rag Rolling Technique and the application of a matte-finish
topcoat will help to hide imperfections.
Q. Can Faux Finish change the dimension
of my room?
A. Faux Finish can make small areas appear larger by using lighter
colors. It can also bring the ceiling down or push it up. Applying
darker colors at the bottom of the walls and lightening them as
you go up toward the ceiling makes the room appear taller.
Q. The dry wall man just finished his job.
Do I need to apply a primer before applying a base coat?
A. Yes. A primer as well as two coats of eggshell or satin finish
is required. Allow the primer to dry before the base coat is applied.
Q. Why is a primer necessary?
A. There are two factors, which affect the drying of surfaces.
These are environment --which we cannot control--and the surface's
porosity, which can be controlled by the application of a primer
and two coats of eggshell finish. This delays the drying of
the glaze mixture so that there is time to manipulate it, particularly
if working with a latex product.
Q. Can Faux Finish be applied on any surface?
A. Faux Finish can be applied on almost any surface, including drywalls,
textured surfaces, ceramics, fabrics, woods, doors, and metals.
However, keep in mind that the primer to be applied may differ from
one material to another.
Q. I moved into a new home which has knock
down on the walls. Can I apply Faux Finish to them?
A. Yes. Faux Finish is great on textured and knock down areas. Remember
that it is a translucent paint mixture which creates depth and movement
through the use of colors.
Q. I am out of state. Is it possible to
use your services?
A. Yes. We travel to any states in order to work with homeowners
and designers.
Q. Can you provide me with a sample before
starting the project? What information do you need?
A. Send me your design elements, such as fabric, tile, carpet, favorite
colors, and technique desired. For example, these might include
ragging, color washing, sponging, etc. I will make at least two
30" x 40" samples and mail them to you at a reasonable
cost.
Q. If I like your work and want to hire
you, what is the next step?
A. Contact me so that we can schedule your project. References and
recommendations will be provided upon request. A one-third deposit
is required at the time of contract. Out-of-area clients are responsible
for traveling fees, including room arrangements and transportation.
